The Importance of Line Striping

Many facilities need to communicate where and when it is safe for occupants to walk, or where certain products should be stored. Line striping the floors is a great way to clearly convey these messages. By creating highly visible borders and zones which can be color-coded or stenciled with a message or warning, line striping visually alerts occupants that may be otherwise unaware of hazards. The government sees this as such an important form of communication that they have mandated laws for food storage and established OSHA walk/surface guidelines using line striping. From directing foot-traffic and equipment to organizing products and inventory, line striping enables facilities to efficiently manage space, improve safety, and optimize production.

Selecting the Right Product for Line Striping

Line striping can be added or replaced using a variety of products. While there are many options currently available in the market, the most suitable depends upon the requirements of the facility. If the area can afford to be completely shut down for several hours or days, a paint or epoxy coating can be an economical choice, but floor owners should realize that recoating may be necessary within a few months as a result of heavy use. Traditional coatings may also contain high levels of volatile organic content (VOC) and odor, making it difficult to complete the project while the facility remains in operation.

These coatings cure instantly via a UV light source and provide a floor surface with greater durability, less slip, and better chemical resistance than traditional floor coatings.
