Dow Introduces UCON™ Oil Soluble Polymer Base Fluid

Shanghai - (June 24,2011) - The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) is introducing a new generation of advanced oil soluble polyalkylene glycol (OSP) base fluids to Asia and Pacific markets. The products offer compatibility with mineral oils and synthetic hydrocarbon base oils as well as other base fluids.
" It is an exciting innovation breakthrough and none of our competitor has ever produced similar product as OSP", said Mr. Jin Wesley, Market Development Manager for UNCON™ products: " OSP allows the compatibility between PAG and oil possible, and strengthens from the two chemistries could be demonstrated in formulations, especially high performance ones".
Dow UCON™ products are PAG-based synthetic products and differ significantly from petroleum, animal and vegetable oils. PAG-based fluids and lubricants also have advantages over other synthetic lubricant chemistries - notably polyol esters and phosphate esters - including better hydrolytic stability and, in some cases, lower toxicity. PAG-based fluids can also provide better cost/performance ratios than competitive products. Before UCON™ OSP products launched, formulators and end-users are not able to enjoy the strengthens and advantages from PAG-based products in oil-based formulations due to the incompatibility between PAG and oils. And if the end-users want to replace the oil-based lubricants with PAG-based products, complete cleaning of the equipment is evitable which is quite costly.
So launching of UCON OSP is the significant breakthrough in lubricant industry. It can be used as a primary base fluid, co-base fluid, and as an additive in automotive and industrial lubricant formulations. They can be used to upgrade mineral oils, providing improvements in deposit control, oxidation stability and low temperature stability. And it has excellent friction control when used as additives in mineral oils and polyalphaolefins.
UCON™ OSP base fluids are available in a wide range of ISO viscosity grades and offer formulators the option to design many types of lubricants such as hydraulic fluids, metal working fluids, greases, engine and transmission oils. Most important, UCON™ OSP base fluids are safe to handle and are designed to meet high environmental, health and safety performance standards.
Dow is going to present further technical and application details of UCON™ OSP to key customers and industry academia at 2011 China Lubricant Technology Forum at Dalian, which will be held from Sep 21to 23, 2011.
